Vietnam: The new trend of electric bikes used for delivery

More delivery application companies are joining the force in using electric bikes instead of the traditional methods for their delivery operation in Vietnam, with supporting incentives and financial plans for drivers.


New partnerships between electric bike brands and delivery companies

On August 8th, 2023, the food ordering application Baemin and electric motorbike company Dat Bike signed a cooperation agreement to convert the use of electric motorbikes for delivery activities. In the first phase, Baemin and Dat Bike cooperated in June with an electricmotorbike experience programme for driver partners. In the next phase, the two companies will officially start the rental service for driver partners at a preferential price of 32,400 VND/day ($1.35).


In July, Green and Smart Mobility Joint Stock Company (GSM) founded by billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong officially launched a passenger transport service by electric motorbike, Green SM Bike in Hanoi. The line of cars used initially is VinFast Feliz S. It is expected that the next phase of Green SM will add the VinFast Evo200 model, and aim to cover 5 provinces and cities this year, with the number up to 60,000 bikes.


By March 2023, AhaMove also received delivery of 200 VinFast Feliz S units to operate the electric vehicle rental service (EV Rental) in Da Nang through the company website or AhaMove application, and promote the rental contract of1,000 electric motorbikes from GSM to expand business activities.


In May 2023, Selex Motors announced with GrabExpress, a delivery unit of ride-hailing giant Grab, to expand the pilot use of electric motorbikes for transportation in Ho Chi Minh City. Not only that, Selex Motors also became a pilot partner in converting to electric motorbikes of many large units such as Lazada, Viettel Post, DHL, etc. Not long before this partnership, Selex Motors also joined hands with Baemin application to Piloting food delivery activities.


Early September 2023, Gojek also announced a partnership with Selex Motors to pilot the use of electric motorbikes in passenger transportation, food delivery and delivery services in Vietnam (GoRide, GoFood and GoSend) from September 6th. Gojek driver partners will use Selex Camel electric motorbikes when making GoRide, GoFood and GoSend orders on this unit's application platform. Compared to traditional gasoline-powered motorbikes, Selex Camel electric motorbikes can help save up to 35% of fuel costs and 50% of maintenance costs, helping drivers save significantly on operating costs while reducing carbon emissions into the environment. Selex Camel models use battery exchange technology, allowing drivers to quickly and efficiently exchange batteries within 2 minutes at a common battery exchange station, achieving a driving range of up to 150 km on a full charge. Through the pilot project with Selex, Gojek driver partners can exchange batteries for free at more than 30 battery exchange stations in Hanoi and more than 40 stations in Ho Chi Minh City. Selex Camel is also equipped with a mobile charger, allowing drivers to charge at home easily, meeting the different charging needs of driver partners.

Engaging financial support plans

Recently, Be cooperated with VinFast and digital bank Cake by VPBank to provide preferential prices and interest rates for drivers switching from gasoline bikes to electric bikes. Under the agreement, VinFast will support Be drivers to convert from petrol motorbikes to VinFast Feliz S electric motorbikes with a discount of 4% per vehicle above the listed price in the first phase of cooperation. In addition, Be drivers will also enjoy all other VinFast stimulus programs according to the company's general policy. Along with the price incentives from VinFast, Cake by VPBank Digital Bank will provide modern digital financial solutions for Be drivers to buy VinFast Feliz S cars with preferential interest rates from only 0%. In particular, the entire loan application and approval process is done completely online in just a few minutes, no need to go to a bank branch.


VinFast Feliz S is an electric motorbike model capable of traveling up to 198 km per full charge, withstands 0.5 meters of high water level for 30 minutes, very suitable for the work needs of motorbike taxi drivers. technology.
