Our special guest for the Green Interview Series today is Mr. Len from Chicland Hotel, a Zen architectural style hotel with numerous awards both nationally and internationally. The hotel stands out with its use of local materials such as bamboo architect, green facade and nature-inspirational menu.

Tram Anh: First of all, thank you so much for participating in this interview! Could you please share with me some information about the inspiration behind Chicland Hotel? Why did the company decide to go with a Green Concept?
Len: The inspiration of CHICLAND Hotel is started with nature. At this time when climate change is a world’s problem, the hotel's operation team had an idea to create a truly green place, contributing to maintaining sustainable values from nature. In addition, seeing a lot of green buildings in developed cities like Singapore also gave us a lot of inspiration when thinking of building the hotel. Working with architect Vo Trong Nghia - an architect with unique vision and creative mind is also a blessing for us in the process of turning our idea into reality.
We called the concept of hotel ECOCHIC, a unique concept of CHICLAND Hotel. The hotel not only looks luxurious, trendy and elegant with the inherent "CHIC" of the brand, but also has living spaces covered by plants and flowers, along with small details such as the items used in the hotel rooms are also environmentally friendly materials, all combined to create the "ECO" style of CHICLAND Hotel. Experiencing the ECO-CHIC lifestyle at CHICLAND Hotel is a private and peaceful experience from nature, trees and sunshine.
Cảm hứng của CHICLAND Hotel được bắt nguồn từ thiên nhiên. Trong thời điểm mà biến đổi khí hậu đang là một vấn đề đáng quan tâm thì đội ngũ quản trị của khách sạn mong muốn sẽ tạo ra một nơi thật xanh, góp phần vào việc duy trì những giá trị bền vững từ thiên nhiên. Thêm vào đó, việc nhìn thấy nhiều công trình xanh ở những thành phố phát triển như Singapore cũng đã truyền cho chúng tôi rất nhiều cảm hứng khi lên ý tưởng xây dựng khách sạn. Việc được cộng tác với kiến trúc sư Võ Trọng Nghĩa – một kiến trúc sư với mắt nhìn độc đáo và tư duy đầy sáng tạo cũng là một may mắn của chúng tôi trong quá trình biến ý tưởng thành hiện thực.
Với concept của khách sạn, chúng tôi gọi đó là ECOCHIC, một concept độc và lạ của riêng CHICLAND Hotel. Khách sạn không chỉ mang vẻ sang trọng, thời thượng và thanh lịch đúng với chất “CHIC” vốn có của thương hiệu, mà còn đan xen cả những không gian sống được “phủ xanh” bởi cỏ cây và hoa lá, cùng với sự chăm chút đến từng chi tiết nhỏ như những vật dụng được sử dụng trong phòng khách sạn cũng là vật liệu thân thiện với môi trường, tất cả kết hợp lại tạo nên chất “ECO” rất riêng của CHICLAND Hotel. Trải nghiệm lối sống ECO-CHIC tại CHICLAND Hotel là một trải nghiệm riêng tư và an yên giữa thiên nhiên, cây cỏ và nắng gió.
Tram Anh: How are the customers' reactions so far with the very unique concept of Chicland Hotel?
Len: The hotel has received a lot of attention since the construction was completed. Not only guests staying at the hotel love this ECOCHIC concept, but even guests who just pass by will take pictures and admire the unique appearance of CHICLAND Hotel. And not only domestic guests, there are also many foreign guests who were impressed when they saw CHICLAND Hotel on the photo and decided to come to Da Nang to stay at the hotel.
What's even happier is that thanks to a fancy design, along with good service that CHICLAND Hotel has always aimed at when serving customers, the hotel has won many great international awards and recognition such as: Leisure Led Development Future Project at World Architecture Festival 2018, Global Win in Luxury Eco/Green Hotel from World Luxury Award 2020, Architectural Design Hotel – Midscale & Lifestyle at LIV Hospitality Design Awards, WA Awards 36th Cycle – Architecture - Realised and Architectural Design - Hospitality Architecture category at Architecture MasterPrize 2020, as well as being recognized in the top 5 best hotels in Vietnam as the list of Travellers’ Choice by Trip Advisor and received many good reviews on Booking.com, Expedia , Hotels.com, etc. These awards are the motivation to hotel operation team to always try to take care of the appearance of CHICLAND Hotel, as well as satisfy the customers by the service.
Khách sạn nhận được rất nhiều sự chú ý kể từ khi công trình được hoàn thành. Không chỉ khách lưu trú tại khách sạn quan tâm và yêu mến ECOCHIC Concept này mà ngay cả những khách chỉ tình cờ lướt ngang qua cũng sẽ nán lại, chụp hình và trầm trồ về vẻ bề ngoài độc đáo của CHICLAND Hotel. Tram Anh: What are the main challenges for the company in integrating sustainable practices in designing and operating the hotel? What did you do to overcome them?
Len: Of course, when orienting the hotel in this unique way, CHICLAND Hotel also encountered certain difficulties. The construction of the hotel with a new architecture has a more complex structure and manner than conventional works, making the construction time longer than expected. The modern equipment system in the hotel also requires highly skilled workers to be able to install and put into complete operation. The process of installing the equipment system is always carefully monitored by the hotel as well as the construction team to ensure that there are no errors. In particular, to create this green appearance, the plants must be carefully selected from the very beginning. Because Da Nang is a city with a marine climate and is subject to many storms, the trees chosen to be planted on the balcony must also be those that are adapted to the tropical climate and withstand storms. After discussing and choosing, in the end, the hotel chose to plant trees such as chrysanthemum, Strelitzia reginae, Coccoloba uvifera, etc., These are the plants that suitable for the climate but still can create a green landscape for CHICLAND Hotel.
Dĩ nhiên là khi định hướng khách sạn theo một hướng đi không giống ai này thì CHICLAND Hotel cũng gặp phải một vài khó khăn nhất định. Việc xây dựng khách sạn với lối kiến trúc mới có kết cấu và cách thức phức tạp hơn các công trình thông thường khiến cho thời gian xây dựng kéo dài ra hơn so với dự kiến. Hệ thống trang thiết bị hiện đại trong khách sạn cũng yêu cầu tay nghề nhân công cao để có thể lắp đặt và đưa vào vận hành hoàn chỉnh. Quá trình lắp đặt hệ thống trang thiết bị luôn được khách sạn cũng như bên thi công giám sát cẩn thận để đảm bảo không xảy ra sai sót nào. Đặc biệt, để tạo được vẻ về ngoài xanh mướt này thì các loại cây ngay từ đầu đã phải được lựa chọn kĩ lưỡng. Vì Đà Nẵng là một thành phố với khí hậu biển và chịu nhiều những cơn bão cho nên những cây được lựa chọn trồng ở ban công cũng phải là những cây mà thích nghi được khí hậu nhiệt đới và chịu được những trận mưa bão. Sau khi bàn bạc và chọn lựa thì cuối cùng, khách sạn đã lựa chọn trồng những loại cây như cúc tần, thiên điểu, nho biển,… đều là những loại cây phù hợp với khí hậu mà vẫn xanh mát, tạo nên một vè ngoài xanh tươi cho CHICLAND Hotel.
Tram Anh: What is your vision on the future of green tourism in Vietnam?
Len: I guess that green tourism in Vietnam will continue to develop in the near future, when climate change is still a hot issue that needs attention. Green tourism is a type of tourism based on nature, culture, with environmental education, contributing to conservation efforts, sustainable development and attracting the active participation of local communities. It can be said that developing green tourism is the key to responsible tourism development, ensuring sustainable tourism. The core of green tourism is green tourism products.
CHICLAND Hotel wishes to contribute a part to the development of green tourism in Vietnam. We aspire to become a hotel that when talking about green tourism in Vietnam, the name CHICLAND Hotel will pop up first in the minds of international as well as domestic tourists. We want to promote more traditional values of Vietnam tourism combined with sustainable values to create good impression in the eyes of tourists. And most of all, we want to become a leading hotel in contributing and developing Vietnam's green tourism.
Tôi dự đoán rằng du lịch xanh tại Việt Nam sẽ còn phát triển trong thời gian tới, khi mà biến đổi khí hậu vẫn còn là một vấn đề nóng hổi cần được quan tâm. Du lịch xanh là loại hình du lịch dựa vào tự nhiên, văn hóa, có giáo dục môi trường, đóng góp cho nỗ lực bảo tồn, phát triển bền vững và thu hút sự tham gia tích cực của cộng đồng địa phương. Có thể nói, phát triển du lịch xanh là chìa khóa để phát triển du lịch có trách nhiệm, đảm bảo du lịch bền vững. Cốt lõi của du lịch xanh là sản phẩm du lịch xanh.

Tram Anh: What is the next plan at Chicland Hotel to further promote the sustainability aspects of the hotel?
Len: CHICLAND Hotel has many plans to promote the sustainability aspects of the hotel. We always corporate with businesses who get awareness about environmental protection and use the least of non-renewable resources. No matter what they are, MDF boards standard E1, YKK aluminum glass doors, or adobe bricks used in construction, all of them are products meet the highest standard and totally friendly with environment. In addition, CHICLAND Hotel always uses organic food in preparing meals for customers as well as selecting seasonal foods provided from local residents who meet green and clean criteria to create delicious – nutritious – clean meals for guests. Moreover, items such as combs, brushes, razors, etc. are all products that have easily recycled packaging. These are the steps for CHICLAND Hotel to preserve traditional values to bring customers the best service experience.
CHICLAND Hotel có rất nhiều những kế hoạch đã và đang thực hiện để thúc đẩy các khía cạnh phát triển bền vững của khách sạn. Chúng tôi luôn đồng hành cùng các doanh nghiệp có nhận thức về bảo vệ môi trường và sử dụng ít nhất các nguồn tài nguyên không tái tạo. Dù là ván MDF tiêu chuẩn E1, cửa nhôm kính YKK hay gạch không nung dùng trong xây dựng, tất cả đều là những sản phẩm đạt tiêu chuẩn cao nhất và hoàn toàn thân thiện với môi trường. Ngoài ra, CHICLAND Hotel luôn sử dụng những thực phẩm hữu cơ trong việc chế biến món ăn cho khách hàng cũng như lựa chọn những thực phẩm theo mùa được cung cấp từ những người dân đáp ứng được tiêu chí xanh và sạch để tạo ra những bữa ăn ngon - bổ - sạch cho quý khách. Thêm vào đó, những vật dụng như lược, bàn chải, dao cạo,… đều là sản phẩm làm từ rơm rạ với bao bì là sản phẩm tái chế, dễ tiêu huỷ. Đây là những bước tiến để CHICLAND Hotel có thể gìn giữ những giá trị truyền thống và tiếp tục phát huy để có thể mang tới cho khách hàng một trải nghiệm dịch vụ tốt nhất.
