"Million trees - For a green Vietnam 2022"

Within the framework of the project "Million trees - For a green Vietnam" in 2022, the journey to green the first hectares in the highlands of Dak Lak and Dak Nong of Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam and the Central Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union started in mid-August, 2022.

50,000 new trees planted in the watershed areas in Dak Lak and Dak Nong and about 10,000 trees from the contributions of youth union members through companion activities are the goals of the project "Million trees - For a green Vietnam 2022". A total of 60,000 trees were accumulated from afforestation activities and converted from the joint activities of union members and youth. According to the calculation of the specialised department on the amount of biomass, if grown well from the 5th year onwards, 60,000 new planted trees can help the soil retain the average rainfall of about 400,000 m3. This will partly solve the drought and lack of irrigation water in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces.

Because it is not possible to use mechanised machines, all activities from carrying seedlings - digging holes - planting forests are carried out with the efforts of youth union members and relatives. After sowing the seedlings, youth union members and local people will actively take care of and protect the newly planted forest. The time when forest trees close their canopy, self-grow and develop into natural forests is expected to take about 3 years.

The next stop of the project team "Million trees - For a green Vietnam" in 2022 is Quang Son commune, Dak Glong district, Dak Nong. Similar to Dak Lak, the project will plant 25,000 new trees (equivalent to 20.8 hectares) in Dak Nong.

During the 5-year period (2021-2025) of the project, Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam and the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union not only contribute to greening the forest, preserving the natural groundwater but further spreading the spirit. The god of afforestation protects the country and inspires green living for young Vietnamese.
