Thousands of tons of domestic waste continue to accumulate in Thanh Oai district despite the "promise" to remove all garbage before 5th December, 2022. Despite combined efforts from many departments and organisations, domestic waste still remains high, untreated, hence polluting the environment and affecting people's lives.
The large and wide inter-commune road has just been rebuilt in the new rural project connecting two ancient villages (Thi and Mau villages, Dong Mai ward, Ha Dong district) with Dong Duong village (Bich Hoa commune, Thanh Oai district) and Route 70 to go to Thanh Oai - Ung Hoa. The domestic waste dump is opposite the Thanh Oai Industrial Cluster, located close to the arterial road to the Industrial Cluster. Not only the landfill in Bich Hoa commune, many garbage dumps in the area of Phuong Trung, Hong Duong, Thanh Van, Binh Minh, Cao Vien, Thanh Cao, My Hung and more (Thanh Oai district) also happened.
Typically, in My Duc district, about 80-90 tons of garbage is generated every day, the winning unit can only transport more than 50 tons/day, with 30-40 tons remaining, Thuong Tin district stocks 19-20 tons/day, Thach That district has about 1,000 tons of stock in dumps. This is a significant high amount compared to the available capability of the local environment department.
The local people are miserable about the garbage dumps dumped in the open, with no plan to cover up, lining the bottom, growing right on the roadside. This amount of garbage leads to serious pollution.
On sunny days, with little wind, the smoke from burning garbage cannot be dispersed, the whole area is foggy, and we cannot see each other's faces during the day. Furthermore, the location of the landfill is located close to the road, surrounded by the sewage ditch of the Thanh Oai industrial cluster, which is stinking and black. On the days when the local people burn the garbage, many people could not see the road due to black smoke, and both people and cars fell into the ditch, and collisions between vehicles are becoming more common.
Chairman of Bich Hoa commune said that the commune has sent documents to villages and hamlets to propagate people to limit waste discharge, preserve the environment, not throw garbage indiscriminately, do not burn garbage to pollute smoke and dust, etc. The police force and civil defense patrol regularly, even imposing a fine of 3 - 5 million dong for the act of stealing garbage, burning garbage, however, it's not sufficient enough.
According to Mr. Le Anh Tuan (Director of Hai Ba Trung - Urenco 3 Branch), when Xuan Son yard continued to receive garbage, the unit only had 2 trucks, so the last few days have only been able to move a part of the accumulated garbage.
