From 1/9/2022, visitors are not allowed to bring plastic bottles, plastic bags to Co To island
Co To island district, Quang Ninh province has become a famous tourist destination, attracting many domestic and foreign tourists in recent years. Along with the rapid development of tourism, the environment on the island is seriously affected by the amount of garbage from domestic and tourist activities, especially plastic waste, most of which is brought from mainland by tourists.

Mr. Do Huy Thong, Vice Chairman of Co To District People's Committee, said that in order to effectively implement regulations, Co To district requires carriers and tour operators to guide tourists right from the time of ticket sales, and when going to Van Don wharf to go to Co To island, people will be asked to leave plastic bottles, nylon bags and other objects that are at risk of causing environmental pollution. This is one of the solutions that Co To tourist island district is implementing to build Co To into an island district without plastic waste.
In addition to the pilot application of the regulation that tourists do not bring plastic bottles, plastic bags, materials with risk of environmental pollution when traveling to Co To from September 1, 2022, Co To district also called on each resident on the island needs to uphold the sense of responsibility, actively participate in and organise anti-plastic waste activities with specific and practical actions.
Co To is an island district in the east of Quang Ninh province, about 80km from the mainland. Co To has nearly 50 small islands, in which tourists especially love the cluster of islands of Co To, Co To Con and Thanh Lan. In the first 7 months of 2022, this island district welcomed over 162,000 visitors. However, along with the rapid development of tourism, the environment on the island is seriously affected by the amount of garbage from domestic and tourist activities, especially plastic waste.
